Weekend Competition Results 17 & 18 August 2024
Birkenhead and Takapuna’s Forsyth Barr team made the strongest starts in Division 1 when the Bowls North Harbour Centre’s Pennants competitions began despite Saturday’s poor weather.
Play in all competitions was restricted to just two rounds and in some instances in the second round only the minimum 10 ends could be played.
In division one played at Manly Birkenhead and Takapuna won both matches, with Birkenhead on 18 points and Takapuna on 16 points.
Riverhead and Browns Bay were next with a win and a loss and on 12 and 10 points respectively. Mairangi Bay, Helensville and Manly have yet to have a win but the latter two teams had only the one match and had the byes.
The third round which was scheduled for Saturday will now be played next weekend and if there is further disruption the centre has a reserve day on September 7.
In Division 2 in section one at Takapuna, Browns Bay Orange on 10 points leads Beach Haven Badgers on 8. In section two at Omaha Beach, Hobsonville on 14, leads Takapuna on 10, in section three at Waimauku, Omaha on 15 leads Takapuna Ryman on 12, and in section four at Mahurangi East, Takapuna Harcourts on 15 is just ahead of Hobsonville Hercules on 14.
Meanwhile, North Harbour’s representatives in the National Champions of Champions Mixed Pairs in Hastings, John Walker and Rona Turner, from Browns Bay, lost their three matches and missed Sunday’s post-section play. Northlanders, Jeff Cole and Leanne Stewart, from the Hikurangi club, won the title, beat Beth Brown and Karl Mason, from Dunedin’s club, 16-12 in the final.
