The Birkenhead club completed its two major invitation pairs tournaments at the weekend, with a successful staging of the Good Home women’s event.

Bowlers for both events came from a wide spread of top bowlers from most northern centres, with Amy Cheung and Paul Kempthorne from Auckland’s St Heliers club, winning Sunday’s women’s final.

They beat Wendy Jensen and Aggie Motu, representing the Auckland club, 14-7, due to their superior draw bowls with Jensen and Motu appearing to be more affected by the hot conditions which prevailed on both days.

Dawn Strawbridge and Dawn Owens, from Northland’s Kensington club, and Jenny Stockford and Jo McKenna, from the Auckland club, as the beaten semi-finalists, took third equal prizes.

Other winners were North Harbour’s Elaine McClintock and Jeni Hart, A flight, Christine Lineham and Wendy Sargeant (Mangawai), B flight and North Harbour’s Jamie Chen and Geraldine Wight, consolation.

In the previous weekend’s Carpet Mills pairs tournament, Helensville’s Bart Robertson and Takapuna’s Steve Hoeft, won the final.  They beat Aucklanders, Andy Ellis and Ryan Hill, in the final.

Third equal as the beaten semi-finalists were the Birkenhead father-son pairing of Peter and Chad Nathan and experienced Aucklanders, Adam Haywood and former Black Jack, Jamie Hill.
