Interclub 7’s – Competitions in Play – Progress to Date
Interclub 7’s
This last weekend saw the beginning of the competition for the Interclub 7’s comprising Men and Women Division 1 and Men Division 2 competitions. The first day of play on Saturday was completed successfully as scheduled for all three events but unfortunately the weather on Sunday was not quite so good. Play in all three events was affected and came to a halt in the early afternoon and with the greens flooded there was only one decision to cease play for the day.
Results of all completed games to date are recorded on BowlsHub on the web site for members to view.
Regrettably, a number of clubs arrived at the venues without bringing a marker (or reserve 8th player) for the singles games as required by the Conditions of Play. In a number of instances, while clubs listed an 8th player on the team list, that player did not actually arrive at the venues. We do encourage clubs to observe this condition for the successful organisation of the event. It was also regretted that no umpires were available at the venues but did note that a number of their members were playing at the different venues and carried out measuring duties when called upon.
Here is a summary of progress to date in this competition.
Women – Play is part way through the second round of play for the final four teams of Mairangi Bay Pearls, Birkenhead Queen Bees, Orewa and Takapuna Forsyth Barr. There has been one completed singles game and the remaining five games are in progress. These games will continue next Saturday 9th March, which was the designated reserve day, from the point of where they stopped play on the same rinks, to complete round 2 of the finals series.
Round 3 will follow the conclusion of round 2 by which stage we will have found the winner of the event. Play will be on the Pavilion green C at Browns Bay Bowling Club and will commence at 9.00am.
Men Division 1 – This competition was halted around mid-way through round 5. Two singles games have been completed and the remaining games are in progress. These games will continue from the point of where they stopped play on the same rinks next Saturday 9th March at Browns Bay, which was the original date scheduled for rounds 7, 8 & 9. The reserve day for this event is Sunday 10th March should it be required.
In order to make up for the lost time and provide less inconvenience to players, the starting time for next Saturday 9th March will be brought forward to 8.30am. It is proposed, subject to the weather cooperating, to then complete round 5, which has one hour to play, then follow that with rounds 6,7 & 8.
Based on projected times for play next Saturday with a start time of 8.30am a finish time of around 5.30pm can be expected.
If there is no clear winner at that point it will be necessary for teams to play round 9 and possibly round 10 on Sunday 10th March which is the reserve day.
Men Division 2 – In this competition the top two teams in each section have been found after playing five rounds in section 1 and four rounds in section 2. These qualifying teams are Mairangi Bay Stingrays, Browns Bay T2, Manly White and Takapuna House of Travel.
These four teams will play a round robin competition on Saturday 9th March at Birkenhead Bowling Club as scheduled. The draw for this final series will be made at the venue prior to the start of play on Saturday.
Cadness Cup
Women – no change. Play on Friday 8 March starts at 9:30 am at Manly.
Men – Play on Friday 8 March starts at the later time of 12:30 pm at Milford
We wish all bowers good bowling next weekend as well as in the Men’s Cadness Cup on Friday which will have a later start time of 12.30pm. We ask clubs to ensure that all their players are aware of this information on all events.
