Bowls North Harbour Umpires on International Stage
The Digicel Oceania International Challenge saw four of Bowls North Harbour’s umpires officiate over four days of the international tournament held recently at Blockhouse Bay Bowling Club. Sue Rossiter (ITO), Lorna Donald, Sheryl Wellington and Jenny Daniels worked hard over the four days of competition, marking the singles games and umpiring. Our North Harbour umpires were joined by umpires from Auckland and Tasman Centres. Both Lorna Donald and Sheryl Wellington umpired finals matches.
As ITO (International Technical Official), Sue Rossiter was responsible for the ensuring that the level of both marking and umpiring was of international standard, and responding to all technical law issues.
The Digicel Oceania International, the brain-child of World Bowls Regional Director, Brett O’Riley, was being held for the first time and featured bowlers from nine Pacific countries including Aotearoa Māori Bowls and the New Zealand Under 26 Squad. It is a real compliment to the umpires of Bowls North Harbour, to have been engaged for such a prestigious international event.
