Olivia Bloomfield & Paris Baker Win Australian Open Pairs Final 27-10
What an outstanding result for the sport of Bowls in NZ!
Olivia and Paris had to fundraise to get to Australia just to compete in the Australian Open and it is amazing that not only did they enter the competition, they won the final!
In the Final, they were 4 down in the 1st end and the opposition skip had a chance to add the count to make it 5 however she was slightly heavy and moved the jack to only score a single shot. After 7 ends The Bloomfield Combination were behind their Australian Counterparts 8-3 however picked up a 4 and the rest is history.
The very quiet and reserved Baker was relentless off the front and the flamboyant Bloomfield scored many multiples over the next 7 ends and at 27-10 the game was over in the 16th end. It was great to have a microphone on Olivia during the match to hear her comedy and passion which certainly entertained the massive crowd in Broadbeach.
On behalf of Bowls North Harbour we congratulate the New Lynn duo on an outstanding achievement!
Olivia will be representing Niue in the upcoming Commonwealth Games and wish her the best of luck!
