2024 – 2025 Season Opening Day – 8 September 2024
One of North Harbour’s most successful clubs in recent years, Hobsonville, gave an early indication at the weekend that it could continue on its upward path in the 2024-25 season.
In the official opening of the centre for the new season, Hobsonville won the Executive Bonus Fours, unbeaten in both of its matches, to head off a team representing the umpires, who were also unbeaten but had an smaller differential.
Hobsonville’s team was Nigel Rattray, now a member of the centre board, Ray Butler, Clinton Smith and Hanaan Shahwan, who is also a member of the Bowls North Harbour Board.
The host club for the opening day was Takapuna, which was voted “club of the year” for the 2023-24 season.
Fifteen clubs, plus the umpires, participated in the Executive Fours tournament, however, rather than the competitive aspect, the main priority was to enhance the fellowship which already abounds within the centre. A more intesne opener will come next weekend with the first big tournament of the season, the Mixed Pairs 2-4-2 championship, for which there is an excellent entry of 52 teams.
